Here’s a list of notes to keep in mind when acting as a comedy actor:<\/p>\n

If a straight man<\/strong>, your comedic gap<\/strong> is struggling<\/strong> to cope with the crazy character.<\/li>\n
As a character sketch<\/strong>, your comedy comes from staying in your blind-spot<\/strong>. You’re supposed to annoy your fellow actors, but never figure out what causes them pain<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
On stage, you’re always trying to win<\/strong>. Find what you want and stick to it.<\/li>\n
Characters come from “I believe<\/strong>” statements. Ex: I believe that the world is out to get me. I believe all people are inherently stupid.<\/li>\n
Always better to be arrogant<\/strong> than self-loathing. If depressed, so to self-loathing (Alan Rickman status: I hate life).<\/li>\n
Know when to shut-up<\/strong>\u00a0and support when there are ten of you on stage.<\/li>\n
Comedy comes from characters trying to win, not<\/strong> trying<\/strong> to make jokes<\/strong>. Douchebags can make jokes if trying to get a laugh out of mocking someone, but that requires multiple people on stage.<\/li>\n
Premise sketches<\/strong> are consistently better<\/strong> than character sketches.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
